Jet the Goose

Brandon and I thought we'd take Corban, Hayden (kids' cousin), and Kellan on a walk. Tarryn and Makade were already out riding bikes. As we exit out the garage door, we noticed a goose standing in the street. Corban was imediately taken in and wanted to go meet the goose. We warned not to get too close because he might bite. As we got closer we noticed the goose wasn't in a good condition. He was panting, and hanging his right wing lower than the left. He was in no state to fly off so our neighbor, Jody called Animal Control, who in turn called Wild Life. Jody promised to keep an eye on the goose until we heard back from Wild Life.

By this time, Corban was begging for the goose to come on a walk with us and since the goose didn't want to go the way we were going, Corban wanted to go on a walk with the goose instead. Now it's not everyday you see a goose have an entire entourage! People driving by actually took a picture! Once we realized that Wild Life was not in any hury to call us on a Sunday, and the goose's entourage had now turned into 14+ people, we decided maybe we should try to 'herd' the goose into our fenced yard. This was quite the scene since the goose reluctantly went back from the direction it had come. Jody actually tried to cary the fellow to speed things up. (Imagine Corban curled up in a ball and you've got the size of the goose's body!)

Once Jet the Goose, named by Makade (won out over "Duck, Duck, Goose" chosen by Tarryn) was in our yard, we pulled out the turtle pool, and filled it with water. He drank and was quite happy on the lawn over the road he had trudded on for a half hour. Once we all went inside the house Jet felt more comfortable and took the 'plunge' into the wading pool. After preening, drinking, and honking, Jet the Goose waddled his way over to the warm, sun heated patio to take a nap. Corban was making everyone be quiet so not to wake the "little sweetheart" and we soon lost interest in the sleeping goose. Corban went to go check on his patient and screamed, "Goose is gone!" After a thourough check around the yard, we found Jet must've flown the coop!

How fun this was to help a wild animal and be his inn for a few hours. ......Incase you're wondering; Wild Life NEVER called.
